White River

A new Port Authority has been created in Newport, Arkansas, with hopes of bringing additional commercial interests into the region. However; navigation cannot commence until the channel is maintained and tows can move confidently to and from the Mississippi River. The Memphis District USACE is responsible for the navigation, recreation, flood control, and operation-maintenance of this navigation system, and have begun pooling funds for the first phase of creating a navigable waterway: snagging.
